“The support these beauty brands enjoyed in the COVID and George Floyd investment era was short-lived, despite what the data says about minority women doing more with less. So, we are not just a community for founders, we connect them with retail partners, resources and consumers through campaigns and initiatives like this one, that increase their visibility and ultimately create value for the entire industry.”
This case has sparked conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion tactics among venture capital firms, but the fight for women of color business owners is far from over. It's important to stay informed and vocal to prevent similar losses in the future.
On September 11th, WOC Worldwide is hosted a full-day of panel discussions during Congressional Black Caucus highlighting Policing, Economic Development and Cannabis. Our host and moderator, Megan Rivers, news anchor and reporter at WBAL TV 11 Baltimore took us on a journey to understand the importance of understanding our rights in each state, how insurance can build generational wealth instead of debt and learning exactly how much it takes to create an operational cannabis business in Maryland and Washington, DC.

Career Conversations is our response to the realization that people want to launch products but the barrier to entry for product-based businesses is higher than the service oriented agency model that black and brown communities usually explore as a transition to entrepreneurship. Some conversations will focus on entrepreneurship, other conversations will highlight opportunities to grow your corporate career or find your footing with brand partnerships. While this advice is common, the real challenges lie in the “how”. We really want to delve into actionable and practical steps that you took to land where you are today, so we promise each conversation will offer practical and tactile steps toward reaching your goals as a brand founder or retail professional.
In a world brimming with emerging brands where needs are vast, championing your brand stands as a crucial skill. Whether advocating for financial resources to expand your clothing brand, or tax incentives to encourage more sustainable practices, the ability to effectively articulate your brand value as well as your needs is a strategic imperative for success. While advocacy can take on many forms, the resounding theme is perfecting the ask - mastering the ability to understand value and assert needs to achieve optimal results.
